SEGUIN — In sports, learning lessons the hard way doesn’t
sting as much if, in the end, they don’t count for more than exactly what they
are — learning experiences.
LIfegate head coach Trey Green indicated as much after his Falcons were defeated
54-38 by the Austin Christian Cougars, a home-school organization with several
players hovering around the 6-foot-5-inch mark.
“It was a learning experience ... and it was a test of character because they
were pretty intimidating,” Green said. “They were by far the most athletically
talented squad that we’ve played all year.”
The Cougars outscored Lifegate 22-4 in the first quarter.
Austin Swick scored 11 points to lead the Falcons. Matt Akin added eight points
and grabbed six rebounds.
David McCulloch and Kolton Coffman each scored seven points. Dennis Ricketts
(three points) and Brendan Gravett (two points) rounded out the scoring for the
Falcons.
Gravett matched Akin with six rebounds in the game.
Caleb Hardcastle, Peter Thelen and Thomas McCoy each scored 12 points to lead
the Cougars.
The Falcons return to action tonight when they travel to San Antonio to face
Christian Heritage in a distict contest. The teams will tip off at 6:30 p.m.
